Communities in Schools Georgia
Communities In Schools Georgia (CISG) is the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization. CISG provides or coordinates services that address the underlying reasons why students leave school without a high school diploma. CISG implements a community-based integrated student services strategy, leveraging community resources where they are most needed – in the schools. Community-based integrated student services are interventions that improve student achievement by connecting community resources with both the academic and social-service needs of students.
Performance Learning Centers® (PLCs) have emerged as partnerships among public schools, businesses, community agencies, and local CISG affiliates. Together they offer local communities another learning option for high school students who are not succeeding in the traditional school setting. PLCs are unique because they incorporate the CISG philosophy and approach that combine strong personal relationships between staff and students with an intense focus on academic achievement. Students learn through a rigorous, integrated online and project-based learning curriculum. PLC students have access to mentors, internships, career planning, and dual enrollment opportunities with colleges.
