The purpose of the AHSI High School to Career and College Workgroup is to provide an atmosphere for collaborative working relationships and a community for best practice sharing around the topic of career and college transition.
Through active participation in the workgroup, members aim to build and improve career and college services that will enable all students to be successful beyond high school. While workgroup members represent different organizations that have varying goals for their students; each high school to career and college workgroup member agrees that effectively preparing students for some form of post secondary education is the best way to ensure students become ready for all that they may encounter beyond high school.
To ensure that the work group is serving the needs of each AHSI organization, High School to Career and College workgroup members collaboratively developed a desired result that will guide the workgroup activities:
To enhance each AHSI intermediary’s capacity to prepare, matriculate, track and support students’ post high school plans and success.
In order to achieve this result the High School to Career and College Transition work group will implement four strategies:
- Develop a common understanding of key competency-based indicators which demonstrate student’s career and college readiness.
- Identify and develop tools that improve and support college access, readiness and transition support for students.
- Develop a communication structure that will guide the High School to College Transition work and facilitate its collaboration with other AHSI work groups.
- Build interest and opportunities to address, share and improve strategies around career and college preparation and transition support for students.
