Leaders of high quality alternative schools are uniquely qualified and selected for their roles. The AHSI Principal Training & Support work group aims to enhance each intermediary’s capacity to recruit, train and support uniquely qualified leaders for successful alternative high schools.
The key desired result of the Principal Training & Support Workgroup is to enhance each intermediary’s capacity to recruit, train and support uniquely qualified leaders for successful alternative high schools.
Guiding questions for this group include:
- What are the core competencies of successful alternative school leaders?
- How do we better empower and support our school leaders?
- How is leading an alternative high school different that leading a traditional school?
- How do we recruit and hire the right people for the job?
- How do we support both instructional and non-instructional challenges?
- What resources, knowledge and expertise do we share as a professional learning community?
The work group has developed a set of core competencies of successful leaders of high quality alternative high schools and is using that information to assist each organization in enhancing its work with school leaders. As a result of this effort, AHSI organizations will contribute information and tools that can be used more widely to promote professional development and support for school leaders.
