Harlem Renaissance - MINT Introduction Page
Harlem Renaissance High School, a Diploma Plus model school, allows students who have not made the most of the 9th grade to refresh and catch up with their peers. A focus on the student’s emotional, social and academic well-being allows students to be successful in the portfolio and workshop model classrooms. The Diploma Plus strategy gives a multi-tiered achievement premise which puts students into meaningful internship assignments, college classes, seminars, and broad-based community service programs. Harlem Renaissance High School’s vision is to provide students with the necessary skills and foundation so that they have a clear understanding of their objectives for academic and social growth. This rationale will further enable students to transition themselves into becoming productive members of society. By adopting and implementing the Diploma Plus educational model, Harlem Renaissance High School works hard to develop a community that focuses on students’ educational, emotional, and social needs. With this vision in place, students will have the tools to succeed in high school and beyond.
As another step in their continued quest for excellence, Harlem Renaissance High School volunteered to be the second school to host a concentrated numeracy visit by AHSI. In preparation for this visit to take place in late May 2009, the school leadership and mathematics teachers agreed to an intermediate step – a visit by a MINT Support Team. The purpose of this visit was to provide some initial critical friends feedback on self-determined areas of need and begin the planning process for the May 27th visit. View the HRHS Fact Sheet |
