SNEI Process

MINT Support Team Visit
March 25

_________________________________________________________________________
The process for this support team site visit conducted by a Mixed Intermediary Numeracy Team (MINT) was a modified version of the process outlined as part of the AHSI School Numeracy Enhancement Initiative (SNEI). Its primary intent was to provide critical friends feedback and support to the host school. Steps in the process for this visit included:

  1. Pre-planning on-site meeting with HRHS leadership and AHSI Math/QR leads
  2. Three pre-visit planning conference calls with HRHS leadership and math staff and MINT support team members
  3. HRHS preparation of self-reported numeracy goals, challenges, progress, and defined areas of need – shared with MINT support team members
  4. Full day site visit at Harlem Renaissance High School – MINT support team members working in 2 teams to record observations and suggestions related to the 4 areas of HRHS defined need on the special Data Gathering Tool.
  5. Afternoon debrief with HRHS staff and MINT support team members
  6. Evening debrief with MINT support team members
  7. Notes provided by MINT support team members
  8. Preparation of summary report to be shared with HRHS staff

Documentation from this process is intended to briefly summarize the process, findings and recommendations for HRHS moving forward with their numeracy efforts. The intent is that this documentation will serve as a useful tool as HRHS prepares for a more formal MINT visit in late May.

As with the support team site visit, the full MINT visit was a modified version of the process outlined as part of the AHSI School Numeracy Enhancement Initiative (SNEI). The primary intent of this visit was to validate efforts made since the March 25th support team visit as well as provide critical friends feedback and suggestions for continued growth. Steps in the process taken for this visit included:

  1. Pre-planning conference call with HRHS leadership and AHSI Math/QR leads
  2. Two pre-visit planning conference calls with HRHS leadership and MINT participants
  3. HRHS preparation of evidence and steps taken/progress since the 3/25 support team visit related to the 4 key identified areas of focus shared with MINT participants
  4. Pre-visit (evening before) reception, meeting, and dinner with HRHS staff representatives and MINT participants
  5. Full day site visit at Harlem Renaissance High School – MINT participants working in 2 teams of 4-5 to record observations/evidence and suggestions related to the 4 key identified areas of focus on the HRHS Foci Recording Chart
  6. Evening debrief, dinner and celebration with HRHS staff and MINT members
  7. Participant survey and reflection completed by MINT participants

Once again, documentation from this visit is intended to briefly summarize the process, findings and recommendations for HRHS moving forward with their numeracy efforts. The intent is that this documentation will serve as a useful tool for HRHS to develop and implement a one month, three month, and six month action plan with continued correspondence and support from Diploma Plus coaches and interested MINT participants.
