MINT Support Team Visit
March 25

________________________________________________________________________

In preparation for the Full MINT Site Visit on May 27th, the MINT support team suggested that the HRHS math staff carefully review the observations and suggestions/recommendations provided and craft a reasonable action plan that will lead to measured growth in these identified areas of need. Rather than focus the late May visit on the 7 numeracy principles outlined in the AHSI concept paper, MINT participants were provided with this document and instructed to look for evidence and opportunities as they relate to the four identified areas of need.

All information provided is intended to both validate and acknowledge HRHS efforts as well as provide meaningful suggestions for continued growth. The MINT Visit Team suggested that with HRHS Coach John Jenkins facilitating the process and carefully monitoring progress, and by fully utilizing any and all support from AHSI coaches Tanya Manning, Michelle Allman, and Nancy Cruse, HRHS math staff craft a focused one month, three month and six month action plan with challenging yet attainable goals. It was also suggested that a primary focus on problem solving and student engagement be considered as visitors felt progress in these areas will also yield significant growth in retention and vocabulary/math literacy. It is important that HRHS not lose sight of the longer-term goal of incorporating numeracy across the curriculum and use the guiding principles and suggested action steps found in the AHSI concept paper, Creating and Sustaining a Culture of Numeracy in our High Schools, as a roadmap for this ongoing journey.
